Hearing Protection

Hearing protection devices are used to prevent hearing loss in environments with harmful noise levels and in places where large machinery operates. Each hearing protection device is assigned a noise attenuation value (NRR) in decibels (dB), indicating the degree to which sound is reduced before entering the ear. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standard requires the use of ear protection equipment to ensure that workers are exposed to noise levels below 85 decibels during an average 8-hour work shift, in order to avoid noise induced hearing loss (NIHL). Earplugs can be inserted into the ear canal, while earmuffs cover the ears, providing similar protection. Noise cancelling communication headphones and earplugs are equipped with electronic components that support one-way or two-way communication between workers. The hearing protection and testing system is used to train workers on the proper use of earplugs.
